Rourkela: Three unidentified women purportedly snatched away a gold chain from an elderly woman inside a Durga Puja pandal in Rourkela, the video of which was captured in a CCTV camera.
According to sources, the sector 15 Durga Puja pandal which is one of the major crowd pullers during festive season in the steel city witnessed heavy rush of devotees in view of the Maha Astami rituals of the Goddess today.
As devotees mostly women visited the puja pandal on the occasion, taking advantage of the crowd, three women allegedly snatched chain in a pre-planned manner from an elderly woman while she was having darshan of the presiding deity inside the pandal. Soon after the incident, they slipped away surreptitiously while taking benefit of the huge rush.
When the elderly woman came to know about the loot, she lodged a complaint at sector 15 police station in connection with the incident. Taking note of the complaint, the police launched an investigation and verified the spot.
The exact circumstances of the loot incident came to fore after the police inspected the CCTV footage installed inside the pandal. One woman has been detained in this connection from sector 16 Durga Puja pandal while another woman suspected to be involved in the case managed to slip, police sources said.
