Bhubaneswar: While hearing a PIL filed by Odisha Abhibhabak Mahasangha (OAM) against the exam fee hike by the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE), Orissa High Court on Monday directed the Board to submit its reply within four weeks.

In August this year, CBSE hiked the Class X and Class XII examination fee from Rs 750 to Rs 1,500 for General category students and from Rs 50 to Rs 1,200 for SC and ST students.

Following the hike in the examination fee, the parent's association had written to CBSE to reconsider its decision. Later, challenging the Board's decision, the association filed a PIL in the High Court and sought quashing of the changes in fee brought by CBSE.

"The High Court accepted that the fee hike is abnormal and directed CBSE to take a decision on the representation of the parent's association and submit its reply within four weeks," said Bibhuti Bhusan Choudhury, lawyer of the Abhibhabak Mahasangha .

Though the Court has not issued any notice to CBSE, the matter will come up for hearing again after four weeks, added Choudhury.
