Bhubaneswar: Odisha Congress workers on Monday staged a demonstration in front of the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) office in Bhubaneswar alleging that the central agency has put the investigation of massive scams and crimes in the cold storage.

On Congress' foundation day, the State unit of the party alleged that the CBI is being controlled by Prime Minister Narendra Modi and it is working as per his instructions.

"In the chit fund scam, people had a belief that CBI would conduct impartial probe but the investigating agency is now working on the behest of the Chief Minister (Odisha CM Naveen Patnaik) and the Prime Minister. As it is working as per the directions of the PM, people are losing the hope of getting justice from the CBI," alleged senior Congress leader, Jayadev Jena.

The CBI has been handed over 17 cases in the last 20 years, but it has failed to ensure justice even in one case, said Jena, the former chief of the Odisha Pradesh Congress Committee (OPCC).

Responding to the allegation of Jena, State BJP spokesperson Dilip Mohanty said that the Congress is now working hard towards making its presence felt in the country. The party is presently not in a position to stand or raise voice and fight for people, he said.

"The allegations are baseless and it is just a political stunt to save the party in the State," said Mohanty while accusing the Congress of maintaining double standards.
