Cattle Smuggling: Over 100 Cattles Rescued, 5 Persons Held In Balasore

Balasore: Palpable tension gripped Khantapada area in Balasore after five vehicles reportedly engaged in illegal transportation of cattle were seized near Seragada tollgate on the National Highway-16 this morning.

As per reports, four trucks and a pickup van smuggling over 100 cattle were en-route to Kolkata from Bhadrak when they were intercepted by police at the toll gate during a vehicle checking drive.

Sources said police received information regarding five containers loaded with cattle from Bhadrak and that the vehicles would cross Seragada toll gate in the wee hours. Accordingly, police intercepted the trucks and managed to rescue as many as 100 cattle while five persons have been detained in this connection. The rescued cattle have been kept at Balasore Gaushala.

Further interrogation is underway.
