Sundergarh: Senior Congress leader GeorgeTirkey along with his supporters on Wednesday staged a demonstration in front of Sarbati Devi Women’s College in Rajgangpur of Sundargarh district demanding arrest of three persons who allegedly passed casteist remarks against a woman employee engaged at the institute.

According to sources, the woman, a class IV employee has been allegedly harassed by three other staffs of the college for last one year. In order to appraise the college administration about her grievance, she approached the authorities several times in the past, however, the protesters alleged that no noticeable action was taken against the accused.

"Even though she repeatedly brought the matter to the notice of the college principal he did not take any action against the accused," Tirkey alleged.

"As it is a criminal case, we demand immediate arrest of all three accused under Scheduled Caste and Scheduled Tribe (Prevention of Atrocities) Act. Otherwise, we will launch a massive protest in the future," he added.

Notably, the college authorities have already placed a clerk under suspension and taken disciplinary action against two other employees in connection with the incident.

Meanwhile, Rajrangpur MLA also demanded strong action against the accused persons involved in the incident. The college authorities were unavailable for comment.
