Cuttack: The Special Task Force (STF) of Odisha Crime Branch busted an inter-state racket involving theft of Ferro-chrome in Cuttack and arrested six persons in this connection.

A huge quantity of stolen cargo of Ferro-chrome weighing around 214 tons was seized during multiple raids carried out by the STF in Manguli and Tangi area of Cuttack. The market value of the seized Ferro-chrome would be more than Rs 2 crore, the STF said.

“Basing on intelligence input regarding organized inter-state cargo theft of Ferro-Chrome, STF conducted multiple raids at various places near Manguli/ Tangi, Cuttack in last two days,” the STF said in a statement.

“During these raids, an inter-state gang operating in multiple states like Odisha, West Bengal, Andhra Pradesh, Jharkhand etc., was busted and a huge quantity of stolen cargo of Ferro-chrome (weighing around 214 Tons) was seized,” the statement added.

The STF registered three cases in this connection and arrested six persons identified as Ajit Gupta, Santosh Kumar Verma, Babli Gupta, Kundan Paswan, Nanda Kishore Singh and Radheshyam Gupta.

Apart from the stolen Ferro-chrome, the STF also seized three trucks, a generator set and an electric sewing machine.

“It is learnt that the gang members would either remove or steal the cargo from the trucks while it is being transported to consignee at various ports. Generally, Ferro-Chrome is exported from India through various ports to different countries like Japan, South Korea. Further investigation is on,” the STF added.
