Boudh: A fast moving Swift car crashed into a trawler near Karathakoda on the National Highway No 57 (Kordha-Bolangir road) early on Saturday morning resulting in the death of the driver.

Four other occupants suffered serious injuries in the accident. The injured were initially taken to the Old-Cuttack community health centre and later shifted to the District Headquarters Hospital at Boudh where they were stated to be critical.

The deceased has been identified as Tarun Meher from Tarabha village who was returning home from Puri in a swift car with four others after performing the last rites of his deceased father.

As per reports, while the car was travelling near Karathakoda village on NH 57, Tarun lost control over the vehicle and crashed into a trawler which was precariously parked on the middle of the road on the opposite side.

In the head-on collision, Tarun died on the spot while the other passengers suffered multiple injuries.

As per reports, personnel from the nearby Harabhanga fire brigade reached the spot, rescued the injured and transferred them to the community health centre at Old-Cuttack.

The injured who hail from from Bolangir district, have been identified as Chabi Meher (from Rugudipali), Bidubhusana Meher, Ashok Meher and Ram Meher (all from Belapadara).

Though the reason behind the accident is still not clear, the Old-Cuttack Police have reached the place of mishap and started an investigation.
