Balasore: In a major crackdown on drug trafficking, Special Task Force (STF) of the Odisha Crime Branch seized a huge amount of brown sugar worth over Rs 1 crore from Sahadevkhunta area in Balasore district on Saturday.

Based on an intelligence input, the STF team conducted the raid in the area and nabbed two drug peddlers in this connection. They have been identified as Manas Mukhi and Kamalakant Das.

During search, brown sugar weighing 1 kg 360 grams, a stolen bike without registration number and other incriminating materials were seized from their possession.

“The accused will be produced in the court today. A case under Sections 21 (c) and 29 of NDPS Act, 1985 has been registered against them. The two were also involved in many other criminal cases,” said STF SP Prashant Bhoi.

In a similar incident, Commissionerate Police seized around 445 gram brown sugar worth Rs 45 lakh and arrested one person in this connection near Kandarpur area in Cuttack on Saturday.

It is worth mentioning that STF has seized more than 30 kg of brown sugar and over 64 quintals of (6400 kg) ganja since last year.
