Balasore: Palpable tension prevailed in Soro area after a bridegroom fled the procession when his baraat was heading to the wedding venue in Balasore district late last night. The marriage procession was on, and in a matter of time, the groom vanished after finding police officials at the spot.

According to sources, the groom, Jitendra Nayak of Jagannathpur village under Raghunathpur police limits in Bhadrak district was involved in an affair with a girl and later established physical relationship with her on the basis of promise to marriage. However, after he (Nayak) ditched her, the girl lodged a complaint with Basudevpur police.

Nayak was reportedly on his way to marry another girl of Soro area when police tried to arrest him based on the complaint. However, he jumped off the car and fled the spot.

I can't see him marry anyone else and will commit suicide if he attempts to do so. I want justice,” alleged the girl.

“We have registered a case after receiving a complaint from the girl. The accused is absconding. We have sent our teams to several places to trace him and he will be arrested soon,” informed Inspector-in-Charge of Basudevpur police station, Umashankar Nayak.
