Bhubaneswar: Congress veteran and Jatani MLA Sura Routray took a u-turn from his earlier remarks over gathering of bouncers in Congress Bhavan a few days ago.

Going back on his previous comments that he will never tolerate such indiscipline in Congress, Routray surprised everyone by denying involvement of any Congress leaders behind the deployment of musclemen at the party headquarters.

“It’s a ploy of Opposition to tarnish the image of Congress. Nobody inside the party brought those bouncers inside the Congress Bhavan. We don’t have dearth of workers in our party. We can gather a crowd of over 5000 supporters with just a wave of hand. So the story of bouncers is false," said Routray.

“Congress Bhavan is a sacred institution and I condemn whoever had sent those bouncers to taint our image,” added Routray.

It’s worth mentioning here that, a number of bouncers were seen guarding the entry and exit gates of the Congress Headquarters in Bhubaneswar during a meeting on 18 January this year Chaired by OPCC Chief Niranjan Patnaik and State-in-Charge Jitendra Singh, Digvijay Singh.

While Routray was quite vocal at that time about the bouncers who were brought in view of resentment brewing among workers, his sudden u-turn today has raised quite a few eyebrows in the power corridors.

Reacting on the issue, Congress leader Pradeep Majhi said, “This certainly sends a wrong message to people. I will take up the issue with OPCC Chief.”

Meanwhile, no comments could be obtained from either BJP or BJD on the matter.
