Balasore: The Balasore district administration today bulldozed a gigantic signage board put up by the authorities of West Bengal 'illegally' within the territory of Odisha at Udayapur near Digha.

Sources said the welcome board was installed by the neighbouring State last month by intruding 20-meters inside Odisha's land.

Though the revenue department had raised such incursion on Odisha land, the West Bengal authorities refused to budge. Following such adamant attitude, the Balasore district administration today razed the structure with assistance of local police.

"Today, we have demolished the unauthorised structure that was erected on Odisha territory," said Balasore Sub-Collector Nilu Mohapatra.

Apprehending law and order situation, four platoons of police force were also deployed by the district administration during the eviction drive.

It is pertinent to mention here that both Odisha and West Bengal are at loggerheads over claim of territory in Balasore and Mayurbhanj districts.

"We had initiated the Balasore district administrative officials for a settlement of the ongoing dispute through discussions. But they did not listen to us," said BDO Ramnagar (West Bengal), Anupam Bag.
