Cuttack: A constable sustained multiple injuries after unidentified miscreants hurled crude-bombs at police team at Dalabhaga village under Khuntuni police limits of Athagarh block in Cuttack district.

The incident occurred when the work for laying of electric wires through a transmission tower was underway to facilitate power supply to a cement factory.

It is alleged that the incident occurred due to the simmering resentment among farmers who were demanding compensation before laying of the electric wires.

Sources said the miscreants escaped soon after hurling crude bombs at the police team which was supervising the laying of the high-tension electricity wires of the cement company by the OPTC officials.

Though some compensation was paid to farmers, they were demanding more money before allowing the restoration of the electricity supply to the cement company.

Following the incident, senior police officials reached the spot and have begun talks with the agitating villagers.

Meanwhile, the laying of electricity wires has been suspended. Two platoons of police force have been deployed in the area to maintain law and order.
