Bhubaneswar: Targeting the Odisha government over the bombing on RTI activist Sarbeswar Beura in Jajpur on Saturday, BJP Vice-President Bhrugu Baxipatra warned of a large scale protest if the BJD MLA, whose name has been mentioned in the FIR, is not arrested.

Addressing a presser, Baxipatra said, "Beura is an active RTI activist and a BJP member. We condemn the bomb attack by the Biju Janata Dal goons on Beura's vehicle."

"This is BJD's 18th attempt to eliminate BJP activists in Odisha. We can say this with authority because the FIR registered by Beura's wife mentions all the misgivings by the BJD members in detail," he said.

Baxipatra further alleged that, "This is not the first time, in fact Beura had survived another attack on his life 2-3 years back. The BJD wanted to eliminate him because he helped uncover all the corruptions of the ruling party in the Jajpur district including the illegal mining of Dankari Hill and led BJP's protest there."

"I think that this attack took place because the police did not do anything and never took the past FIR seriously. Beura's wife has mentioned in the FIR that the MLA of Dharmashala had threatened Beura of dire situation if he did not withdraw MLA's name from all the complaints," he added.

Baxipatra concluded his address by requesting the Chief Minister of Odisha to intervene and fast track the investigation or else the BJP will be forced to take to the streets.

However, BJD's Dharmasala MLA has not commented anything on the allegations levelled by the BJP.

Senior Congress leader Mohammad Moquim on Sunday met RTI activist Sarbeswar Beura at the hospital and enquired on his health condition.
