Bolangir: One person sustained severe burn injuries while property worth over Rs 5 lakh was reduced to ashes following a major fire that broke out in a fruit market in the town on Thursday night.

On receiving information, a firefighting team rushed to the spot and doused the flames. However, the exact cause behind the fire is yet to be ascertained.

The critically injured has been admitted to the nearby hospital for treatment.

Earlier on November 23, property worth lakhs had been gutted in a major fire that broke out in the paediatric ward of the Bargarh District Headquarters Hospital.

Fortunately, no casualty or injury had been reported in the mishap as the ward was closed and no patients were inside. Medicines and furniture worth lakhs of rupees had reduced to ashes in the mishap.

In another similar incident on October 17, as many as five houses were reduced to ashes after a major fire broke out at Mangalpur village in Dhenkanal district.
