Bolangir: The Bolangir bypass road project suffered a huge setback after the Centre sought state government’s clarification on fund allocation for land acquisition.

According to reports, the centre had asked for a clarification to the state government regarding land acquisition after the state representatives failed to present their case before the standing finance committee on why such high rates are being asked for acquisition of agricultural land.

Sources said the Union Ministry for Road Transport & Highways has asked for a clarification regarding the mismatch in allotted funds for land acquisition for the project.

The centre’s response came following a letter from Bolangir MP, Kalikesh Singh Deo seeking approval for the project. Meanwhile, the Bolangir MP has held a review meeting with the district collector and other officials on the issue.

“We have sent the estimated amount as per the rates provided by the revenue office. The benchmark evaluation and sale statistics did not match for which they have asked for a clarification,” SDO, NH division, Kamal Kumar Swain said.

“We have not received any official communication yet about the details they want. After we get the letter, a report will be submitted after a detailed study,” Bolangir collector, Arindam Dakua said.

Earlier, Union Minister for Road Transport & Highways, Nitin Gadkari, had written a letter to Union Petroleum Minister Dharmendra Pradhan, informing the latter that the centre has allocated Rs 190 crore for land acquisition for the project.
