Youth thrashed after caught stealing truck

Bhubaneswar: A youth was thrashed mercilessly by locals who allegedly caught him while attempting to steal a truck parked inside a potato godown in Aiginia area of the Capital city on Sunday.

As per the allegations, the youth had first tried to open the door of a truck parked on the roadside. On failing, the youth attempted to enter through the window of the vehicle when the truck owner spotted him.

The youth was then beaten up by locals after he started to flee from the spot.

"My truck was standing at the garage for maintenance work and the driver had gone to the office after locking door of the vehicle. I saw that a youth was trying to enter through the window. The theif was opening the battery when he realised that he has been surrounded. Though he tried to escape but we overpowered him. He confessed of stealing batteries and jugs from vehicles," said the truck owner Saroj Kumar Rath.

On the other hand, the accused youth said he was trying to fetch a bottle from inside the truck.
