Youth sentenced to 10 yrs RI for sexually abusing minor girl

Balasore: A youth was sentenced to rigorous imprisonment for ten years by a court here for kidnapping and sexually abusing a minor girl in Odisha's Balasore district three years ago.

Additional District Judge of Balasore Ajanta Sadangi while convicting Jayanta Mallick of Biruan village under Remuna police station limits and pronounced the jail term yesterday, also imposed a fine of Rs 8,000 for committing the offence on January 28, 2014.

In the event of non-payment of the penalty, the convict would have to undergo imprisonment for an additional period of eight months.

The court delivered its verdict after examining 13 witnesses and ten documents.

According to prosecution, the 14-year-old girl was kidnapped from her village and taken to two different places against her will and sexually abused.

The Police rescued the girl and arrested the youth when the victim managed to flee from the house where she was kept and informed her father over phone.

The incident occurred when the girl, a student of class nine in a nearby school, was going for tuitions and Jayanta Mallick abducted her after offering a lift on his bicycle.
