Phulbani: A youth from Baliguda in Kandhamal was today arrested by police for allegedly misleading the cops by filing a false loot case.

The accused identified as MD Nurali had filed a complaint at the Daringbadi police station on April 3 alleging loot of more than Rs 5 lakh.

In his complaint, Nurali, who works as manager of a private school, stated that some unidentified miscreants had robbed him of the cash near Patangi in Daringbadi.

Following investigation, the Daringbadi police found out that Nurali had himself hatched the loot plot to embezzle the money.

While police sources said Nurali's wife and the school Principal were also involved in the loot conspiracy, the accused denied the role of his wife and said it was he alone who had planned and executed the crime.

"We were able to crack the robbery case after finding some vital leads that established the role of an insider. The accused, Nurali, has confessed that there was no loot and it was he who made up the story. The Rs 5.23 lakh was spent for some urgent personal expenses," IIC of Daringbadi police station Srikant Khamari informed.

Earlier on March 31, the Cuttack police had arrested a man for allegedly misleading the cops by registering a fake complaint of  being looted of Rs 27 lakh.

Cuttack DCP Akhileswar Singh had informed that the complainant himself had masterminded the fake loot.
