Bhubaneswar: Showing prompt action in the ‘egg attack’ on Union Agriculture Minister Radha Mohan Singh’s vehicle, Commissionerate Police on Saturday arrested five persons including Youth Congress President Lokanath Maharathi.

A case has been registered by Capital Police and further probe is on, informed Police Commissioner YB Khurania.

Earlier, the Youth Congress activists had allegedly hurled eggs at Union Agriculture Minister Radha Mohan Singh's vehicle near the State Guest House here.

The incident occurred soon after the Union Minister left the State Guest House and was on his way to Jatni to attend a programme. The Union Minister arrived here to attend the mega ‘Sabka Saath Sabka Vikas’ event.

According to reports, the Congress activists showed black flags and staged demonstration against the death of six farmers in police firing in Madhya Pradesh.

However, the Union Agriculture Minister has denied egg attack as there were several BJP flags around him.

Senior Congress leader Pradip Majhi on the other hand accused the Narendra Modi led BJP government of being ‘anti-farmer’.

“The egg attack was carried out to sensitise them that problems of the farmers of Odisha and other parts of the country are addressed,” said Majhi.

Golak Mohapatra, BJP Spokesperson on the other hand, condemned the attack.
