Youth attempts suicide in police station, family stages dharna

Bhawanipatna: Family of a detained youth, relatives and locals staged a dharna in front of Kegaon police station in Kalahandi district today, demanding his safe release, after an alleged suicide attempt by him on Tuesday.

The youth, identified as Dhananjaya Bag, a resident of Mahaling had been detained by police for interrogation on Sunday, suspecting him to be involved in a theft at a grocery store of one Tarun Agrawal in Mahaling on May 31.

Unable to bear alleged police pressure, Bag reportedly stabbed himself with a broken bottle in the police station. He was immediately rushed to Bhawanipatna district headquarters hospital but later shifted to VIMSAR in Burla as his condition deteriorated.

Meanwhile, his family members have demanded police to bear his medical expenses and release him safely.
