Young woman killed over dowry in Smart City Bhubaneswar

Bhubaneswar: Crime against women continues unabated in the State and shockingly in Smart City Bhubaneswar with a young woman reportedly killed over dowry in Aiginia in Khandagiri police limits here.

Family members of the deceased, identified as Liza Moharana, alleged that her in-laws murdered her as their dowry demand of Rs 10,000 was not fulfilled.

Though earlier she had been tortured on several occasions by the in-laws and husband for dowry, she was tortured severely yesterday after Rs 1,600 was found stolen from the house after which she was admitted to AIIMS, Bhubaneswar, said her family members.

While undergoing treatment at the AIIMS, she was declared dead by doctors.

Family members of Liza lodged a complaint at the Khandagiri police station alleging that as injury marks were found on the young woman’s dead body, she was tortured severely.

The father-in-law, mother-in-law and husband of Liza have been detained at the Khandagiri police station.
