Bhubaneswar: Taking suo moto cognizance into the death of a woman due to alleged transfusion of wrong blood at Keonjhar district headquarters hospital yesterday, the Odisha Human Rights Commission (OHRC) on Thursday asked the district collector and health secretary Pramod Kumar Meherda to submit report on the incident within four weeks.

According to sources, OHRC has asked the collector to probe the incident.

Earlier yesterday, one Sukanti Nayak of Old Bazar area in the town died at the DHH due to transfusion of wrong blood.

Following the incident, family members of the deceased lodged complaint against chief district medical officer (CDMO) and assistant district medical officer (ADMO), holding the medical authorities responsible for the unfortunate incident.

The hospital authorities also admitted the blunder committed by the hospital staff. Later in the day, the CDMO, taking note of the gross negligence resulting in the death of the woman patient, dismissed two hospital staffs– Laboratory technician Bharati Mohanta and Staff Nurse Hemalata Mohanta from their service.

He also recommended the Health department to take stern action against a doctor for gross dereliction of duty.
