Cuttack: Subodh Patnaik, a theatre personality and one of the most eminent writers and lyricists who served decades in the Odia cinema industry, passed away at the age of 70 here on Saturday.

Patnaik, who is survived by his wife and two daughters, died due to cardiac arrest at his Khannagar residence in Cuttack.

A doctor by profession, Patnaik began his career in Ollywood as a dialogue writer in Brajaraj movie’s Danda Balunga in 1984 and went on to script many super hit films one after another.

Some of his works include Jaga Hata Re Pagha, Sabu Mayare Baya, Janani, Jai Phoola, Sankha Sindoora, Sahari Bagha, Mamata Mage Mula,  Baje Bainsi Nache Ghoongura, Bidhi Ra Bidhana,  To Binu Anyagati Nahin, Chaka Bhaunri,  Ei Ta Duniaa,  Thili Jhia Heli Bohu,  Pua Mora Kala Thakura, Mamata Ra Dori, Chaka Aakhi Sabu Dekhuchhi, and many more.

Saddened over his demise, people from across the fraternity paid rich tributes to the veteran.
