Bhubaneswar: Renowned Odia writer Banaja Devi will receive the prestigious ‘Sarala Award’ for her story book “Kathapua” and overall literary achievements for the year 2017 during the 38th edition of the honour.

Devi will receive a cash award of Rs 5 lakh along with a citation, a release from Indian Metals Public Charitable Trust (IMPaCT) said. IMPaCT is the charitable wing of leading ferro alloys producer IMFA Group.

Talking to OTV, Banaja Devi said, "I was unable to understand anything when I got the call. It was a surprise for me that gave immense pleasure. Despite being in an old age, the award will definitely excite me and also increase responsibility."

Meanwhile, Dr. Ghasiram Mishra will be awarded with ‘Ila Panda Memorial Music Samman’ and Dr. Durga Prasad Das will receive ‘Ila Panda Memorial Art Samman’. They will receive a cash award of Rs. 1.5 lakh each along with citations.

The personalities will be awarded at an event scheduled to be organised at Mayfair Lagoon Hotel in Bhubaneswar on October 26.

Eminent writer Padmashree Mamang Dai will be seen as a guest at the award function.

The annual Sarala Award was instituted in 1979 by IMPaCT. Sarala Award is recognised as the foremost literary award of our State.
