Malkangiri: After Bolangir, women in Malkangiri district lead anti-liquor protest and vandalize a country liquor shop at Lathiaguda in the district on Saturday.

A local association 'Maa Ghara' had been protesting against the sale of liquor in the area since long, but as the district administration did not heed to their request, angry women together barged into the liquor shop and destroyed hundreds of country liquor packets.

Talking to media persons, President of ‘Maa Ghara’ Prashantilata Bisoi said, “We arrived here and found large quantity of liquor in a house. We have warned the owner not to sell liquor anymore and have destroyed all the stock.”

Earlier on Friday, women at Kutumdula village under Jhankarpali panchayat in Bolangir district had also ransacked a new liquor shop in the village.

Scores of men and women had attacked the liquor vend and had destroyed liquor cartons and packets worth some lakhs of rupees.
