Kendrapara: Tension prevailed in Pattamundai after a group of women allegedly tied another woman to a tree and thrashed her for hours for allegedly selling liquor in Gagua Chhak here on Saturday.

According to sources, the SHG activists had been protesting and demanding closure of the liquor vend opened by the woman, Sasmita Patra, in the Chhak since past few days.

Even though a complaint was lodged with the police, no action was taken against her, alleged an activist.

Annoyed with the inaction of police, they finally took law into their own hands, tied Sasmita to a tree and allegedly beat her mercilessly.

Situation further deteriorated as the irate activists even clashed with the local police on the road who came to rescue the assaulted woman.

Meanwhile, one woman activist has been reportedly injured in the tussle.
