Jajpur: Tension prevailed after body of a woman was recovered under mysterious circumstances from her house in Chorda Digisahi area under Jajpur Road police limits in Jajpur district on Friday night. The deceased has been identified as Archana Kumari (25).

Archana's husband Pankaj Kumar, who works as a assistant manager at Jindal Stainless Ltd (JSL) at Kalinga Nagar Industrial Complex, has been detained after his -in-laws brought allegations of dowry torture.

According to reports, Pankaj, with the help of some neighbours, had to break open the door of the house after his wife Archana, who hails from Jharkhand, did not respond from inside yesterday.

Later, Pankaj found his wife's body hanging from the ceiling of the house. On getting information, police rushed to the spot and sent the body for post mortem.

On the other hand, the woman's family alleged that Archana was frequently tortured, both physically and mentally by her husband Pankaj for dowry.

Basing on the complaint filed by the deceased woman's family, police registered a case against Pankaj and his family members.

"We are interrogating Pankaj and the truth will come out once the investigation into the incident is completed," said a senior police official.
