Dhenkanal: In a fresh incident of man-animal conflict, a woman was trampled to death by a tusker at Srirampur village under Bhuban Forest Range in Dhenkanal district this morning.

The deceased was identified as Kagaja Pani, who was attacked by the wild animal when she had gone to a nulla near the village to take bath.

Sources said the Forest Department had earlier received information about the presence of a herd of elephants near Srirampur village, following which concerned officials were alerted to keep an eye on the wild animals. Despite surveillance, a tusker entered into the village and attacked the woman leading to her death.

Tension prevailed in the locality following the incident with locals demanding compensation for the family members of the deceased and concrete steps by the forest department to drive away the pachyderms. Later, the Bhuban Forest Ranger reached the village and assured to provide compensation.
