Mayurbhanj: In absence of a roof over her head, a tribal woman in Sukruli block of Mayurbhanj disrict reportedly delivered a baby inside a culvert.

As per sources, the house of the woman was destroyed six months back by a herd of elephants. However, without any support from the district administration, she had taken shelter inside a culvert, where she gave birth to a baby girl a few days back.

After the incident came to light, the district administration has jumped into action. A probe has been initiated to find the loopholes for which the woman was not able to get any support and why she delivered the child inside a culvert even in the presence of an Asha worker of the village, informed sources.

Additional District Collector, Gangadhar Nayak said that the district administration has ordered the authorities to provide a house to the woman.

"The matter will be looked into by the senior officials, to ascertain how it happened despite presence of Asha and Anganwadi workers. We have asked the BDO to provide shelter to the woman through rural housing scheme," said Nayak.
