Woman raped in Nayagarh; accused arrested

Nayagarh: A woman was allegedly raped by a youth under Ranpur police limits in Nayagarh district when she was alone at her home on Tuesday evening.

The accused, who is from the same village has been arrested, police said. Ranpur Police Station IIC Girija Shankar Rath said, “The woman, whose husband has died, came to the police station at around 7 30 pm  yesterday and filed a complaint  alleging that one Lipuna Das  aged 25 came to her house and raped her when she was alone. He also threatened her to kill her if she discloses the matter.Soon after the complaint, a team rushed to the spot and arrested the accused, ”

The survivor has been sent to hospital for medical examination while the accused will be forwarded to the court after the medical test, he added.

In another incident, even though two days have passed since a minor girl was raped at Taria village of the district, the accused is yet to be arrested by the police.

The girl was allegedly raped by one Kathia Nayak on Monday evening when she had gone to a nearby cashew orchard. Meanwhile, medical examination of the girl was conducted at the Nayagarh district Headquarters Hospital (DHH) yesterday.
