Mumbai: In a horrific act, a young woman was pushed to death under a local train by an Odia chain snatcher at Kurla station in Mumbai on Tuesday evening.

The deceased has been identified as Sapna Sharma (24), a resident of Ghatkopar.

According to source, the tragedy struck when Sapna, who was working for a private insurance firm, was waiting to board the train at platform number 1 of Kurla station.

An Odia youth identified as Subhasit Mallick (19) of Phulbani in Kandhamal district attempted to snatch the chain of Spana. During the loot attempt both had a scuffle following which Sapna lost her balance and fell onto the railway track and was hit by an incoming local train, sources added.

She was rushed to a hospital by GRP police where the doctors declared her 'brought dead'.

Ashok Bhorde, GRP inspector at Kurla, said, “The accused who was standing behind Sapna, suddenly grabbed the chain from her neck and pushed her while the train was entering the platform. The victim lost control and fell on the track.”
