The woman is undergoing treatment at the medicine ward of Baripada Medical College and injury marks on her body are proof of the torture she went through.

According to sources, the woman who hails from a village under Kuliana police limits in Mayurbhanj district got married against the will of her family members and relocated to Kolkata. Within a few days her husband started torturing her and handed her over to flesh trade agents in Kolkata and Mumbai. She had also made several unsuccessful attempts to escape from the clutches of the flesh traders.

“He first took me to Kolkata by promising me a job and sold me there. Later, he took me to Mumbai and repeated the same thing. He used to beat me severely and starve me. I had to even beg for food,” said the woman.

After tormenting for seven years, her husband left her at Bhadrak railway station and fled. She was admitted to the hospital by some social workers. However, in a fortuitous turn of events she recognized her family members who had came to the same hospital. The whole incident came to light when she narrated her ordeal to family members.

After being saved by social workers, the woman is seeking justice and wants her husband behind bars.

“Even after many days in the hospital, the district administration has not lent any support to her. We are supporting her as per our capacity. We request further support for her,” said social worker, Arun Kumar Behera.
