Woman, newborn die at Paralakhemundi DHH

Paralakhemundi: Tension ran high at Parlakhemundi District Headquarters Hospital (DHH) after a woman and her newborn died due to alleged medical negligence on Saturday night.

The deceased has been identified as Sabita Gurunga, wife of Debendra Gurunga of Ratansing village under Gosani block in Gajapati district.

According to sources, Debendra had first admitted his pregnant wife Sabita to the community health centre in Gurandi. However, she was shifted to Parlakhemundi hospital after her condition deteriorated.

Sabita delivered the dead baby boy at the district headquarters hospital. Following the delivery Sabita also died at the government-run hospital.

Alleging negligence in treatment, Debendra lodged a police complaint.

However, the hospital authorities have refuted the medical negligence allegations levelled by the kin of the deceased.

“An inquiry will be conducted and action taken against the officials who will be found guilty,” said, Gajapati CDMO Dr Purna Chandra Kora.
