Angul: A 30-year-old woman, who was mistakenly left behind by her husband at Nakchi in Angul district while they were travelling in a car on Thursday night and later found on Sunday evening was raped by six persons, informed Angul SP Mitrabhanu Mohapatra.

"After the woman was traced, we recorded her statement based on which there was a probe. Investigations revealed that the woman was gang-raped by six persons near Purunapani forest between Nakhi and Handapa, " said Mohapatra in a presser on Wednesday.

Four among the six accused have been arrested. “One among the four is a minor and efforts are on to nab two others who are absconding ," added the SP.

On the fateful night, the woman, her husband and their daughter were travelling from Modipada in Sambalpur district to Bhubaneswar in a car. While the husband was driving, their daughter was seated next to him and the woman was in the backseat.

At around 10 pm, as they were nearing Nakchi village in Angul district, the woman asked her husband to stop the car so that she could relieve herself on the roadside. She returned to the car to collect water bottle in the back seat of the car. After taking the bottle she shut the door of the car. Thinking that his wife had returned to the car, the husband drove away.

After driving for some 15 kilometres, the husband realised that his wife was not there in the car following which he drove back to Nakchi but could not locate her. Later, he lodged a missing complaint at the Handapa police station.

Police traced the woman at her sister’s home in Jagatsinghpur town where she had reached on Sunday- three days after the incident.
