Puri: A woman was killed for resisting a dacoity bid at Chandrakot village under Delanga police limits in Pipili area of Puri district last night. The deceased has been identified as Pushpalata Das.

Nearly four to five armed miscreants had entered the house between 10:30 pm to 11 pm yesterday. On finding Pushpalata alone, the robbers attacked, tied up and locked her inside the bathroom.

Pushpalata's son Laxmidhar, who runs a mobile store, was not in the house when the incident occurred yesterday.

According to reports, Laxmidhar sensed trouble after his mother did not open the gates of the house after his arrival at around 12:30 am. Later, he entered the house from a window and rescued Pushpalata in a critical condition from the bathroom and rushed her to Sakhigopal community health centre.

Senior police officials said that the woman was declared brought dead by the doctors on arrival at the hospital.

"As there are no  injury marks on the body, it is suspected that woman died of suffocation as the robbers had gagged her mouth with a tape. Further investigation in connection with the incident is on," said a senior police official.
