Woman killed, 7 hurt in twin road mishaps

Khurda: One person was killed while seven others were injured in two separate road mishaps, on NH 57 near Pichukuli in Bolagarh of Khurda district this morning.

In the first incident, four people were injured after a truck rammed into a roadside shop at Pichukuli bazaar. The injured were immediately rushed to a hospital.

The driver of the Hyva truck fled from the spot after the incident. Police have seized the vehicle and launched a manhunt to nab the driver.

Soon after, a woman was killed and three others critically injured after a speeding car, they were travelling in dashed into a roadside electric pole, a few metres away from the first accident spot. The car was on its way to Cuttack from Manmunda in Phulbani when the mishap took place.

The deceased has been identified as Mandakini Jai Gumudia .

The intensity of the incident was so high that the electric pole on to which the vehicle rammed was completely uprooted. All the injured have been admitted to a nearby hospital and are stated to be critical.
