Woman killed, 22 injured as bus rams into school

Rayagada: A woman was killed and 22 others sustained injuries after a bus in which they were travelling lost control and rammed into a school at Kotapeta area here late on Saturday night.

The deceased has been identified as Harabati Bhatara of Bijapur village.

According to sources, the incident took place when the private bus was on its way to Berhampur from Umerkote late on Saturday night. The ill-fated bus lost control and rammed into a primary school in Kotapata village causing the death of the woman on the spot, the sources added.

On being informed about the incident, police rushed to the spot and rescued the injured persons. The police also arrested the driver of the bus.

All the injured persons were rushed to Rayagada district headquarters hospital. Out of the 22 injured, the condition of eight is stated to be critical, hospital sources said.
