Woman found hanging, family suspects foulplay

Berhampur: A married woman was found hanging from a tree at Tantisahi under Kabisuryanagar police limits in Ganjam district today.

The deceased was identified as Santoshi Sambari.

The police recovered the dead body and sent it for post-mortem. The cops also detained her husband Jagannath Sambari and are interrogating him.

Sources said Santoshi, a native of Chheligada village in Gajapati district, had married Jagannath four years back. The couple has a three-year-old daughter.

It is alleged that Santoshi had branded her daughter with an hot iron rod, angry over which her husband did the same to the former. Later, Santoshi took the extreme step to kill herself. However, parents of the deceased alleged that she has been killed by her in laws.

"We are waiting for the post-mortem report; however, investigation is on into the incident," police said.
