Woman dies saving daughter in Malkangiri

Malkangiri: It was a mother’s love that led a woman to jump into a well to save her 3-year-old daughter. She managed to save her daughter but only at the cost of her own life.

The tragic incident happened in Bandamamudi village under Chitrakonda block in Malkangiri district when the deceased woman, identified as Mariami Bairagi, had gone with her daughter to fetch water from a well in the area.

As per reports, the girl fell into the well following which Mariami jumped to save her. Seeing Mariami jump, villagers nearby rushed to the spot and rescued both of them. However, by then, it was too late for Mariami but she had managed to save her daughter.

"I rushed from my farm after hearing that both of them have fallen into the well but only to find her dead," said the aggrieved husband of Mariami, Sahadev.
