Rayagada: In yet another case of medical negligence, a pregnant woman delivered a baby on the roadside near Rathpadia under Kalyansingpur block of the district here on Saturday.

The woman Damayanti Ramulu of Dantalinga village suffered from severe pain and went to the Rayagada Sadar hospital for checkup but was sent back by doctors stating that her expected date for delivery was after 10 days.

However, while returning from hospital by bus, she experienced pain and was unboarded by the conductor. Few moments later, Damayanti delivered a baby girl on the roadside.

Family members alleged that Damayanti had gone to the hospital for check up but was asked to go home as doctors estimated her delivery after 10 days.

Even more exasperating was when the locals wanted to call an ambulance, as usual, it didn’t turn up. The mother-child duo was sent back to their village by an auto, sources said.

The Additional District Medical Officer (ADMO) Siba Prasad Padhi however, attributed the goof up to wrong estimation of her date of delivery. He assured of a probe and stated that action will be taken against anyone found guilty.
