Berhampur: Despite repeated reporting of incidents of women delivering under difficult circumstances from all over the state, a pregnant woman had to deliver a baby on the verandah of City Hospital here in Berhampur due to shortage of bed in the ward.

The incident triggered discontentment among the family members and others present nearby.

According to sources, after the woman complained of labour pain, her family brought her to City Hospital but was not successful in getting a bed for her. With no option, she had to deliver a baby on the verandah of the hospital.

However, doctors have clarified that the health of mother and the child is safe and the duo is under observation.

Meanwhile, City Hospital ADM, accepting the fact that there is shortage of beds as per requirements, said that work is in progress to set up a specialized 30-bed women and child ward in the hospital.
