Woman delivers baby on tractor

Umerkote: The much vaunted Janani Suraksha Yojana of the Odisha government has grossly failed as a woman of Umerkote block in Nabarangpur district today delivered a baby on a tractor as the ambulance did not turn up in time.

Reports said Belanti Majhi of Thipapani village had a labour pain this morning. At this, the family members informed the 102 and 108 ambulance over phone to take her to the hospital.  But as the ambulance did not turn up, the family members took her on a tractor to the hospital. But the woman delivered a baby girl on the way.

Thanks to the 108 ambulance van which turned up after an hour and took the mother and the newborn baby to the hospital.

Talking to the media, Dr Sumant Kumar Raul of Umerkote hospital said as the mother had anaemic problem, we have given her adequate medicines and iron tablets. “We have discharged them from the hospital after ensuring that their condition is stable,” he added.
