Nabarangpur:  Mystery shrouds the death of a woman and her eight-month-old daughter whose charred bodies were recovered from their house at Chirima village in Nabarangpur district on Thursday.

Though it is still unclear whether it is a case of suicide or murder, police have detained the deceased woman's husband Tankadhar Bhatra in connection with the incident.

Sources said the deceased woman was Bhatra's fifth wife. However, the couple’s relationship had grown turbulent over the last four to five months as they used to quarrel over petty issues.

It is suspected that Bhatra allegedly killed his wife and daughter by setting them on fire over some family feud.

“So far we have not received any written complaint. But after getting information, we reached the spot and found that both bodies were burning inside the house,” said Papadahandi SDPO, BK Nayak.

Nayak further informed that it is yet to be ascertained whether it is a case of suicide or murder. However, a team of forensic experts will conduct further investigation in the case for necessary action.
