Woman critical in acid attack by son-in-law

Jagatsinghpur: Family feud turned ugly when a man threw acid on his mother-in-law and daughter injuring them seriously at Bhaliapatna village under Tirtol police limits of Jagatsinghpur on Friday night.

According to information, one, Manas Kumar Swain of Olanga village of Kakatpur in Puri district had married to the daughter of Santilata and Banamali Samal of Bhaliapatna.

On Friday night, Manas had an altercation with his mother-in-law Santilata and in a fit of rage threw acid on her and fled the spot. While Santilata was critically injured, Manas's 1-yr-old daughter also sustained injuries.

Both the victims were rushed to Manijanga CHC and later shifted to SCB Medical in Cuttack after their condition worsened.

Sources said, Manas had a quarrel with his wife after which she was staying at her paternal house. According to sources, while Manas was trying to bring her back, his mother-in-law Santilata was opposing the move.

Meanwhile, police have registered a case and seized the acid bottle used by the assailant.

“Every attempt are being made to nab the accused. A case has been registered against him and we are sure that we will be able to nab him,” Tirtol SDPO Shiv Charan Mallick said.
