Woman claiming to be MLA's wife attempts suicide in front of Odisha Assembly

Bhubaneswar: After attempting suicide in front of CM’s residence recently, the woman, claiming to be the wife of Talcher MLA Braja Kishore Pradhan, again tried to take her life in front of Odisha Assembly today demanding justice.

According to sources, the woman consumed phenyl in front of the Assembly. She was later rushed to hospital by the police.

Talking to media persons, she said, “I went to Naveen Nivas but neither the DCP nor the Mahila police took any action on my complaint. I know that suicide is a crime but it was the last resort for me, as the Chief Minister has turned a blind eye to the actions of his MLA. I challenge the MLA to file defamation suit against me and face me in court.”

The woman since long has been claiming to be wife of Pradhan and had even alleged that she was subjected to physical torture by the lawmaker.

Earlier in February, she had also lodged complaint at Mahila Police Station in Bhubaneswar alleging that the legislator is refusing to give her the social status as wife even after she married him at a temple on April 5, 2015 as per rituals.

She had also alleged receiving life threats from the MLA and his supporters.
