Woman arrested for drowning sons in well

Angul: The woman, who killed her three sons after jumping into a well along with them yesterday, was arrested from a temple at Gurujanga under Kishore Nagar police limits in the district.

Shobagini Behera, after being rescued alive from the well, had fled the spot. Police were on a look out to arrest her.

Behera had attempted to commit suicide with killing her three minor kids, police said. A neighbour, who witnessed the woman jumping into the well with the children, raised an alarm following which villagers informed the fire brigade team and swung into action to rescue all of them.

However, they could only save the mother while all her kids died in the well. The mother of three fled the scene after regaining consciousness shortly after being rescued.

Villagers said Sobhagini's husband, who was the sole breadwinner of the family, is lodged in jail after being arrested on charges of selling narcotic items. With no source of income, Sobhagini was finding it extremely difficult to feed her three children, which forced her to live under severe mental agony.
