Woman arrested for drowning daughters to death

Sambalpur: A woman in Bamra who allegedly attempted suicide after drowning her two daughters to death over a family quarrel, has been arrested by Gobindpur police.

Baijayanti Mahali, the arrested woman, admitted to killing her two daughters, aged four and two, police sources said. While she was going towards the railway station, suspicious locals informed the Gobindpur police, who detained the woman and grilled her. She also accepted she was walking towards the railway station to commit suicide.

However, it is not known why the woman,the wife of a junior engineer of Bamra block office Durga Mahali, murdered her daughters. At the time the crime was committed, Baijayanti’s husband was not at home. Family dispute is suspected to be the reason behind the crime.
