Neighbours said Mahanandia, who was working as a daily wager at the under-construction Darlipalli NTPC power plant and staying at a rented room at Darlipalli, had a quarrel with his wife on the Diwali day and left the house since then. But to the surprise of everyone he appeared in the area last night and torched his wife and two daughter.

Along with the victims, three other women were also sleeping in another room of the same house. Notably, the woman and her daughters were living in the room of the rented house which they were sharing with another family.
