Bhubaneswar: Winter session of the State Assembly starting from Tuesday is likely to be stormy with the Opposition planning to corner BJD on several issues while the ruling party is all set to counter members of the Opposition parties.

Congress and BJP will raise farmer deaths and crop loss on the floor of the House while the ruling party will defend itself by demanding a hike in paddy MSP and raking up the Centre’s failure to form a tribunal to resolve the Mahanadi water row between Odisha and Chhattisgarh.

Narasingh Mishra, Opposition leader said, “The Odisha government and the Centre have become mute spectators when farmers are committing suicide in the State due to crop damage following pest attack. Besides, if the Prime Minister does not take a decision on hike in paddy MSP by tomorrow, the party will raise the issue in the State Assembly.”

Clearing his party’s stand, BJP State president Basant Panda said, “The party will draw the attention of the House on areas in which the State government has failed.”

Meanwhile, to put the saffron party off guard, the ruling party will raise delay in Mahanadi tribunal formation and decline in Central funds to the State in the House.
