Malkangiri: Citing that people have lost faith on Maoists, Director General of Odisha Police (DGP) KB Singh on Friday said that the police administration will be able to conduct safe and peaceful panchayat elections in the Left Wing Extremism (LWE)-infested areas of the district.

Singh who visited Malkangiri today held discussions with police officials and informed that adequate security arrangements will be made during the upcoming polls.

“Discussions were held with officers about Maoist activities and reviewed panchayat polls preparations. It’s good to see despite all problems in cut-off areas, nomination for samiti members have been received. People are coming forward and we will be able to conduct safe and peaceful poll in the area. We are prepared to face any problem in naxal-affected area”.

“Even across the whole of the state, adequate force will be deployed and preventive steps will be taken during the polls. In certain areas Maoists have called to boycott election. But as people have faith in democracy, despite of threats of people have filed nominations in some places and believe they will come forward to vote. We will ensure their safety. During polls adequate patrolling will be undertaken. Besides, special operations will be carried out in order to thwart any attempts of disrupting polls. Maoits have lost public support after police operations have lead to death of several naxal leaders. The rebels are dispirited particularly in Odisha,” stated Singh.
